The revised cross-border tariff schedule takes effect Monday. We have published the full gazette text and a plain-language summary of what changes at the six busiest land crossings.

The plain-language summary is the useful part. Most traders at the crossing will never read a gazette.

Does the schedule cover the seasonal exemptions, or is that a separate instrument?
2018
Separate instrument, published the same day. We have linked it at the foot of the summary.

Printing the summary for the desks at the port. Fifty copies. Someone should be doing this at every crossing.

Is there a Kiswahili version, or is that something we should organise ourselves?
3027
French version came out this morning. A translation of the summary, not of the gazette, which is the right call.

Recorded this at the crossing this morning — the traders explain the new schedule far better than the gazette does.

Reporting on cross-border trade and the people who actually move the goods. Kiswahili and English. Voice notes most mornings.

The new bus lanes have cut my commute by twenty minutes. Posting before and after times every day for a month. #BusLanes

Spent the morning at the new interchange. The signage is in two languages only, which is going to be a problem for half the people using it.

Did the gazette actually land, or is it still ‘imminent’?
08:31
It landed. 04:00, no announcement, no summary.
08:38SENT
Of course it did.
08:40
Are you going to the crossing before the schedule takes effect?
08:44
Tomorrow, first thing. I want the traders on record before the desks change over.
08:51SENT
Good. The gazette text is unreadable for anyone who is not a customs broker.
08:53
Sent the recording — the second half is the useful bit.
09:41
Listening now. Can I quote the part about the paperwork desk?
09:47QUEUED
Quote whatever you need. Credit the union rep, not me — she said the useful part.
09:52
Understood. Sending you the draft before it goes up.

The paperwork desk opens at 07:00. The cranes have been running since five.
